Apple Inc. has updated its AppleCare+ policy. This enables users to replace the batteries in their iDevice. The company will replace the battery as soon as it hits 80 percent health.

Among others changes in terms and conditions of battery life has come across as good news for all Apple owners. The updated extended warranty policy states that “…the capacity of the Covered Equipment’s battery to hold an electrical charge is less than eighty percent (80%) of its original specifications, Apple will either (a) repair the defect at no charge, using new parts or parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or (b) exchange the Covered Equipment,…”

This updated AppleCare+ policy is only available for devices purchased after April 10, 2015. Customers need only submit a valid claim.

The warranty programme covers all batteries, no matter what iOS or OSX device you own. The AppleCare+ protection plan covers all Apple products including iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple Watch and all MacBooks. A great news for all Mac owners indeed. The previous policy only covered for manufacturing defects and not for performance degradation. Previously the policy allowed iOS device batteries to be replaced after the health dropping below 50%. The policy now covers any battery of any iDevice that retains less than 80% of its actual capacity.

AppleCare+ can be added to an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Apple Watch at the time of purchase or within 60 days of the purchase date. AppleCare for Macs can be purchased at any point during the computer's standard one-year warranty term. AppleCare+ cost $49 for the Watch Sport, $59 for the iPod Touch, $69 for the standard Watch, $99 for iPhones or iPads, and between $250 and $350 for MacBooks. Without AppleCare+ the battery can cost $79 (up to $199 for Macbooks).
