Apple has sent out press invites for an event scheduled on March 21 at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. At the March 2016 event, the company is slated to unveil its much anticipated 4-inch iPhone SE alongside the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

A recent update of a popular iPad drawing app suggests that Apple’s upcoming rumoured 9.7-inch iPad Pro may come with support for Apple Pencil, just like its larger sibling, as reported by Apple Insider.

The notes section of the Astropad Graphics Tablet, the developer Astro HQ mentioned that “Apple Pencil support for new iPads (Spring 2016).” The update carries version number 1.4.

Previously it was believed that in 2016 Apple will update its iPad lineup with the release of the third generation of iPad Air. But most recent rumours suggest that instead of the iPad Air 3, the Cupertino-based tech company will bring in a smaller sibling of the coveted 12.9-inch iPad Pro of 2015, as reported by 9to5Mac.

Apple Pencil, the pressure-sensing stylus works with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

The smaller iPad Pro will come with almost similar specifications including Apple A9X processor along 4GB of RAM, as its bigger sibling. The device is also rumoured to come with similar storage capacities.

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro may come with similar colour options, a rear camera flash and four speaker audio.

Apple's next-generation of smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro is also supposed to come with a Smart Connector for connecting accessories. However, Apple will have to resize the Smart Keyboard to fit the smaller iPad Pro.

Although the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro is supposed to come packed with fairly upgraded specs, but speculations hinted the device won’t support Apple’s 3D Touch.
