Apple fans may be aware of the fact that the new MacBook Pros have failed to earn Consumer Reports recommendation. This is mainly because of their battery life as lab tests have revealed issues in three different MacBook Pro models. All the three devices performed superb when it came to display quality and performance. However, in terms of battery life, the results were disappointing.

According to Consumer Reports, three MacBook Pro models were tested, one a 13-inch model without Touch Bar, another with the Touch Bar and the third a 15-inch variant. The battery life of the models was found to be highly inconsistent from one trial to the next. This news could be very embarrassing for Apple as probably for the first time Apple MacBook Pro may not be the best devices in the market.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar w orked for 19.5 hours in the first trial but only 4.5 hours in the next. The one with the Touch Bar performed for 16 hours in the first trial, 12.75 hours in the second, and only 3.75 hours in the third. The 15-inch laptop’s battery performance ranged from 18.5 hours down to 8 hours.

The results are pretty disappointing more so as fans expected the refreshed models to improve on the battery life of the predecessor, writes Gizmodo Australia. A laptop’s battery life typically varies by about five per cent in tests. The dedicated GPU in MacBook Pros could be draining battery fast. Moreover, there is no way to drop the onboard GPU. Hence, Apple MacBooks may switch between dedicated GPU and integrated graphics.

Jerry Beilinson, the Consumer Reports editor, has stated in the report that he would not recommend any of the three MacBook Pro models to consumers as they fail to meet the battery standards. Battery performance is a very important and deciding factor for laptop buyers.
