One of the most interesting rumours about the Apple iPhone 7 is that the company is all set to include a dual-camera unit with optical image stabilisation, which is not present in its latest iPhone 6s. Moreover, Apple will also incorporate zoom functionality made by LinX, an Israeli camera-technology company.

This move may prove to be a game changer and help Apple revive its dropping iPhone sales. Last month, Apple, the world’s most valuable company by market capitalisation, predicted its first revenue dip in 13 years in its second quarter ending March 2016.

Back in April 2015, Apple acquired LinX Computational Imaging Ltd. for about $20 million, which is known for its pioneering effort in developing multi-aperture camera models for mobile devices, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

LinX’s unique camera technology will revolutionise mobile photography and enable effects like background focus blur, parallax images and 3D picture capture. The camera modules are capable of “stunning colour images and high accuracy depth maps,” confirms LinX.

The camera modules created by LinX are almost half the height of a standard mobile camera and are believed to produce SLR standard image quality.

The multi-aperture technology combines processing, sensor and optics to enhance low light photography. Furthermore, the multi-lens camera set up will also be able to capture precise shallow depth information, which is difficult to achieve with smartphone cameras.

Last year, it was speculated that Apple will use the dual-camera set-up for its current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which did not materialise. Now, rumours are rife that Apple would incorporate the camera technology by LinX in the bigger iPhone 7 Plus.

Along with the rear camera, Apple will also redesign the back panel of the phone to remove the protruding lens, according to unofficial reports. Both the iPhone 6s and the older iPhone 6 series feature protruding cameras.

There speculations that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus would sport a neat look and remove the antenna lines from its rear panel.

Other rumoured iPhone 7 specs include incorporation of wireless charging from a distance of 15 feet, removal of physical Home button, top-to-bottom display, water resistance and more storage. Apple is yet confirm the release date of the much speculated iPhone 7.
