The large-sized iPhone 6 Plus from 2014 has been replaced by the newer iPhone 6S Plus. The new phablet boasts better hardware specs without majorly altering the design of the older model.

The iPhone 6S Plus that will be available with a starting price of $299 is a worth upgrade or not is a question that most iPhone 6 Plus owners may be thinking of at present. In order to upgrade to iPhone 6S Plus, its specifications has been stacked up against the specs of predecessor:

Thicker And Heavier

The thickness and weight of the iPhone 6S Plus is 7.3 mm and 192 grams. However, the iPhone 6 Plus from 2014 is slimmer with a thickness of 7.1 mm and it also weighs lesser at 172 grams. The reason why the new iPhone 6S Plus is thicker and heavier is that it equipped with a stronger series 7000 aluminum alloy metal body.

3D Touch

The 3D Touch feature is what set’s the display of the iPhone 6S Plus apart from that of iPhone 6 Plus. Both feature 5.5 inches full HD IPS Retina screen. However, the 3D Touch on the iPhone 6S Plus lets it distinguish between touch gestures like lighter taps and deeper taps on the screen and works like the right-clicking function on PC, Wall Street Journal blog reported.

Faster Chipset

Even though Apple refrained from revealing the clocking speed of the Apple A9 chipset that fires up the iPhone 6S Plus, it announced that the new chip produces 70 percent better performance and 90 percent better graphics than the Apple A8 chipset of the iPhone 6 Plus. According to GSM Arena, it is supported by 2 GB of RAM.

Enhanced Cameras

The iPhone 6S Plus features a 12 MP rear camera and a front-facing camera of 5 MP. It is a major upgrade over iPhone 6 Plus’s rear camera of 8 MP and 1.2 MP frontal camera.

The main camera of iPhone 6 Plus only supported full HD recording and 720 pixel slow motion videos but the 12 MP shooter on iPhone 6S Plus can record 4K resolution video and capture slo-mo videos at full HD resolution. Moreover, the huge Retina display of the iPhone 6S Plus can function like a flash while shooting photos from the front-facing camera.

A new image capturing feature introduced on the iPhone 6S Plus is Live Photos. It is small video clip of 1.5 seconds shot after snapping a photo, Phone Arena reported.

Faster Wi-Fi And LTE

The iPhone 6S Plus is equipped with a new chip that can deliver two times faster Wi-Fi connectivity than iPhone 6 Plus. Moreover, the Cat. 6 LTE chip offers download speed of up to 300 Mbps whereas the iPhone 6 Plus delivers up to 150 Mbps download speeds through its Cat. 4 LTE modem.

Rose Gold Color

The iPhone 6S Plus will be available in shades like space gray, gold, silver and a new rose gold color. The iPhone 6 Plus from last year came in only in three colors such as space gray, silver and gold.

As of this writing, several details of the iPhone 6S Plus are not known yet such as the CPU speed and the capacity of its battery. Apple has announced that the iPhone 6S Plus will be available on preorders from Sept. 12. The 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB models will be costing $299, $399 and $499, respectively.
