According to the latest news, the upcoming Apple iPad Pro will reportedly feature an oxide TFT display. It is worth noting that, in general, an increase in the device's display size comes at the cost of increased power consumption. However, by using the new oxide TFT panel, the iPad Pro tablet will apparently consume significantly less power.

Based on the report from ET News picked up by GForGames, the manufacturer LG Display is apparently the world’s largest LCD panel maker and it is reportedly building the screens for Apple. And the company is investing in the eight-generation P8-P9 production-line technology in its own manufacturing plants in Paju, South Korea for the advanced technology. Going by the report, LG Display has the capacity to produce 9,000 oxide TFT sheets each month. In any case, the company wants to increase the manufacturing units to 21,000 in order to build a total of 30,000 sheets every month.

On the other hand, in case, LG succeeds in building 30,000 oxide TFT panels per month, the company would reportedly be ranked next to SHARP with respect to production capacity. And apparently, SHARP already has the capacity to output nearly 30,000 units each month. But then, LG’s plan is not to stop at the 30,000 mark, instead, the tech giant is reportedly planning to improve the manufacturing capacity to an additional 20,000 sheets by the second quarter of 2016.

With a humongous production plan going on at the background, the good news for LG is that the new oxide TFT panels “can be produced from the previous a-Si TFT LCD production line so the investment cost is not that high. Also, the processing relatively simple which cuts down the production cost as well.” In addition, the “oxide TFT LCD has lower power base with ease to design slimmer [units] and also excellent in touch sense than the previous a-Si TFT LCD,” notes ET news.

Notably, an LG Display official apparently told ET News that, the large number of production plan is predominantly because of the requirement from the upcoming Apple iPad with 12.9-inch display and future iMacs. Therefore, this news confirms that Apple is indeed working on the iPad Pro tablet. Furthermore, Apple will apparently source the oxide TFT screens not just from LG Display, but also from Sharp and Samsung Display. Nonetheless, readers should note that, Apple has not confirmed the iPad Pro specifications thus far.
