Apple iPad mini 5 release date: See speculated specs and features

For the past few years, Apple has been regularly updating its iPad mini line-up. This year, the Cupertino-based tech conglomerate is also expected to announce the fifth generation of the iPad mini.

Last year, Apple unveiled its iPad mini 4 alongside the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at its annual fall event. Similarly, rumours indicate that the Apple iPad mini 5 release may fall in September 2016.

However, Apple has not yet confirmed the release date of the iPad mini 5.

The iPad mini 5 will reportedly sport the same design elements of its predecessor and come packed with the same 7.9in Retina display. The device is expected to be thinner than the iPad mini 4 and tout a 7000-series aluminium chassis, as reportedly PCAdvisor.

Apple might also consider releasing a new Rose Gold variant of the rumoured iPad mini 5. The tablet might get an overhauled processor with more internal storage capacity. The iPad mini 2016 line-up is also speculated to sport Apple’s iconic 3D Touch and Apple Pencil.

According to the second quarterly results this year, Apple revenue declined for the first time in 13 years. The dwindling iPhone sales resulted in a drop of revenue from US$58 billion (AU$80.66 billion) in the same quarter in 2015 to US$50.6 billion (AU$70.37 billion) this year.

As result, Apple has strategically planned out its product releases in 2016. The tech giant has apparently spread out the product announcement schedule to strike a balance.

In March, Apple released it much anticipated 9.7-inch iPad Pro along with the 4-inch iPhone SE.

The upcoming calendar events might include the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2016 and Apple’s annual fall event in September. Apple has apparently set the MacBook Pro 2016 release date on June 13 at the Worldwide Developers Conference. The Conference (WWDC) 2016 is scheduled from June 13 to June 17.
