Anti-immigration demonstrators wearing Muslim garb disrupted a Sunday service at Gosford Anglican Church and performed mock prayer rituals in what would be the latest of public protest by the Party for Freedom.

Meanwhile, Father Bower said the incident at his church highlights the need for Section 18 of the Racial Discrimination Act. The law considers it illegal to "offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people" on the basis of race.

"If you lose 18C then this kind of vilification and abusive behaviour will go even more unchecked," he said, following reports that several senators want to strike Section 18C, claiming that it restricts freedom of speech.

Before the incident at Gosford, members of the Party for Freedom has repeatedly donned Islamic garb in various demonstrations to mock the religion.

The Party for Freedom gained attention after Folkes demanded the Leichhardt council to declare a “Sharia-free zone” following the Lindt café siege in December 2014.

The party’s official website echoes Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make Australia Great Again,” as it supports a ban on Muslim immigration and the US Republican presidential candidat’s plan to build a wall between the US and Mexico in a bid to stop illegal crossing of immigrants.

Folkes and his peers wanted to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 Cronulla riots last December. However, the NSW Police Commissioner instructed police to stop the rally. Folked also worn Islamic garb during his court appearance wherein he defended the party’s peaceful assembly to commemorate the Cronulla riots.
