Hollywood stunner Angelina Jolie is honoured by Queen Elizabeth at a private ceremony. She is made an honorary Dame to recognize her extraordinary services in the war zone to end sexual violence and for services to the UK foreign policy, as reported by BBC.

Jolie, who is already a special envoy to UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), was presented with Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George by none other the Queen herself at a ceremony held in Buckingham palace.

The actress was recognised for her dedication to end rape and other forms of sexual violence during war time. The decision to award the actress with the honour was made in June when she co-chaired a conference in London. The forum discussed the method of curbing the instances of rape in the war zone.

The conference was attended by various representatives of more than 100 nations. The actress is drawing acclaim for her varied social works in the field of child's right protection and refugee welfare.

The 39-year-old actress was among the 1149 other people who received honour for their respective field of work and contribution to the British society. Since Jolie is not a British citizen, she cannot be referred as Dame. The award is being given on an honorary basis.

Jolie, along with her newly married husband Brad Pitt and six children, flew in London from Malta in a private jet where the couple was working on their next movie--combining work with their honeymoon. The family also got the honour of getting introduced to the Queen. However, no pictures can be taken with the family and kids as it was strictly a private ceremony.

Jolie got involved with the humanitarian work of helping the refugees after filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which was shot in was affected Cambodia. She herself contacted UNHCR and sought information about the worst affected areas in the world.

Eventually, she started visiting these camps and even donated $1million to UNHCR--the largest sum received by the organization from an individual till date.
