Alleged next generation Android M OS version appeared via two comments at Android Open Source Project or AOSP Web site, which seems to indicate early software development prior to the official release of Android 5.0 L. Mark Salyzyn and Wink Saville were the names noted on the comments regarding Android M.

"Patch Set 4: Code-Review+2. Not cherry-picking this into Imp-dev, this is an experimental 'M' feature," commented by Mark Salyzyn with Elliott Hughes, Michael Zimmerman and Pierre Zurek as reviewers.

"Patch Set 3: Code-Review+1. LG, what you tested--what happens when this is merged to master? What devices has this been tested on in master? The first Android release this will show up in is probably 'M' -- are the new features being added going to be needed/wanted in Imp-mrX?," commented by Wink Saville on another Web page with Max Cai as reviewer.

The conversation seems technical on whatever is happening on the alleged software development of Android M, but it is not surprising if Google already started the next generation release for 2016. In the past, Google has always released a new version of Android OS. Android 4.4 KitKat is the previous version and Android 5.0 L is the incoming firmware, to be released before 2014 ends. No features or specifications have been exposed from the AOSP Web site. No specific brand has been mentioned as well regarding a possible co-maker for any Nexus device.
