Samsung has finally started releasing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users. The update began in its home country, South Korea, and is expected to be available for unlocked S6 and S6 Edge owners in other regions of the world.

Samsung had begun the roll out of a beta version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users several weeks ago. The beta program was created to receive feedback on the Marshmallow update.

According to Sam Mobile, now that the beta program is over, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow has been released for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users in Korea. The Android 6.0.1 update is said to include support for over 200 emojis and performance improvements over the 6.0 version.

It is interesting to note that the South Korean tech giant has not brought any significant changes to its TouchWiz UI. However, the user interface has been tweaked for smoother performance. One noticeable change is that the default colour scheme has been changed from white to blue.

Now that the Android Marshmallow update has been officially released for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones, it is very likely that the owners of Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 are also going to receive the software upgrade soon.

According to a leaked document from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ users are expected to receive Android 6.0 upgrades starting this month. In March and April, the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S5 users are expected to receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade.

The update is expected to arrive first for unlocked editions of the aforementioned smartphones. The carrier variants are going to receive the update once the firmware upgrade receives approval from the service provider.
