In October 2015, Sony had promised on releasing Android Marshmallow software update Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. After releasing beta version, the Japanese tech giant has finally released Android M update for these devices.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update carries the build number 23.5.A.0.570. Sony has also included the security update for the month of February in the software update. It also comes with a new interface for the camera app, Xperia Blog reported.

The Android 6.0.1 update is now available for D5603 model of Xperia Z2, D6603 model of Z3 and the D5803 variant of Xperia Z3 Compact. It means users of the aforementioned phones with different model numbers will have to wait more to receive the Android M upgrade. Owners of carrier variants will also have to longer to get the new software update.

Also, only certain regions of the world are currently receiving the Android 6.0.1 upgrade which includes – the United States, Latin America, Russia, Ukraine, North Africa and Middle East. The update is soon expected to come to other regions.

In the last quarter 2015, Sony had started the Android Marshmallow beta program for Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact. It allowed owners of these smartphones to use and test the beta version of Android. Since it was the pre-release version, it contained some bugs that were eliminated after receiving feedback from the users. Later on, Sony also allow owners of Xperia Z2 to join the beta program.

The Android 6.0.1 is an incremental update over the Android 6.0 version that was officially launched in October last year. Sony has already released Android Marshmallow update for Xperia Z5 series, Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 Tablet users at the beginning of the previous month.
