Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is now under testing phase on two Sony Xperia Z models indicating upcoming rollout this year. It is means that other Xperia Z devices will receive the latest Android software version.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop On Sony Xperia Z3 And Xperia Z2 Smartphones

At the moment, Sony Mobile is testing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software version on Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 smartphones. Wayerless reported about a video unveiling the new software version being tested on these devices with build versions 23.4.0.279 on Xperia Z3 and 23.4.A.0.248 on Xperia Z2, using the firmware build template 23.4.A.0.XXX.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop revealed by the video featured certain changes on the user interface such as applied Google Material Design on the Settings menu and expanded controls of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth at the notifications area. Users will be able to choose from the list of Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices right on the notifications toggle instead of going to the Settings menu.

Android 5.1 Lollipop On Sony Xperia Z Ultra GPE And Arriving In Australia Soon

Owners of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition can now download and install Android 5.1 Lollipop. Google released the new firmware to Xperia Z Ultra GPE C6806 via Over-the-Air process with build number LMY47D. Alternatively, users can download the zip file of the software by clicking here for manual installation but requires advanced knowledge on Android OS.

For Australia, Telstra confirmed the Android 5.1 Lollipop for Sony Xperia Z, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact currently under testing phase and expected to be ready by August 10. The network carrier also included the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 Compact now available for download since May 18.

Sony Android Lollipop Software Upgrade Plans

It is no surprise if Sony Mobile will expand the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the rest of the Xperia Z Series. Each model under the Xperia Z line has been confirmed to receive Android Lollipop as part of the software upgrade plan starting off with the latest Xperia Z3 models followed by Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z Compact. Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 are also upgradable to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and recently Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. Here are the features of current Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for Xperia devices:

- Google Material Design with minimalistic approach.

- New lock screen with notifications and fully customisable settings.

- Multi user profiles and Guest Mode.

- Better customisation on storage such as moving apps to the SD card.

- Improvement to system stability and battery life.
