Sony has released the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Sony Xperia M2, the Xperia M2 Aqua, the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra. The update also brings along Stagefright fix and various other improvements .

The Sony Xperia M2 came pre-installed with Android 4.3. However, with the new update of Android 5.1 Lollipop, Sony has decided to skip the Android 4.4 KitKat and Android 5.0 Lollipop updates, NDTV reported.

The Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, which was launched with Android 4.4 KitKat, will also be skipping the Android 5.0 Lollipop to directly receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. The updates on both the smartphones will install the 18.6.A.0.175 firmware.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update is also available for the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra, Android Geeks reported. The size of the update is more than 500 MB and it installs the firmware version 14.6.A.0.368.

Since the update is being rolled out in batches, all the owners of the aforementioned Sony devices will not receive the Android 5.1 arrival notification. Once the OTA update shows up, users are required to tap on it to follow the steps in order to install it. Alternatively, users can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates.

The new update brings the Material Design UI, multiple profile modes, LinkedIn integration and more. It also brings along a fix for the latest Stagefright issue. The update also allows owners of Sony Smartwatch 3 to launch the camera app and snap photos from their handset.

Have you received the Android 5.1 Lollipop for any of the aforementioned handset? Is there any significant change in the performance of the handset?
