LG confirms the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the G3 flagship smartphone, including the starting location and software improvements. Android 5.0 for Google Nexus devices suffered a delay but will resume on Nov. 12.

LG Electronics confirmed the official release of Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware release on the G3 flagship smartphone. The South Korean tech company announced that the new firmware update will start to roll out in Poland within the week followed by other key markets in the near future.

"LG is absolutely committed to giving our customers the best mobile experiences available and bringing Android Lollipop to G3 owners as soon as possible is a top priority. The new features and improvements in Android 5.0 will bring a whole new user experience to the G3 and make it even better than it already is," President and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, Dr Jong-seok Park, stated in the press release.

As for the features provided by the latest Android OS on LG G3 smartphone, owners can expect several improvements such as new design language with added depth, shadows and animations. It also boasts of new improvements on the notifications, such as a new layout and colour scheme, new lock screen addition, a new security feature to strengthen the connectivity between devices, with support to unlock the smartphone using another device via Bluetooth and the new Android Runtime for improved software performance. LG will also announce an upgrade schedule for other mobile devices in the future.

Android 5.0 Lollipop Expected Release Date For Nexus Devices

Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware release for Nexus devices suffered a delay to a major bug found on the Wi-Fi connectivity, which drains huge amounts of battery with no apparent reason. Google developers later managed to resolve the issue and expect to have the firmware ready for rollout on Nov. 12, 2014.

At this moment, Android 5.0 Lollipop for LG Nexus 4, LG Nexus 5, ASUS Nexus 7 and Samsung Nexus 10 are only available through manual flashing of unofficial builds. There are five sources of unofficial builds for Nexus devices available via XDA Developers Forum. Be reminded that these unofficial builds require manual installation and can damage the device. It is advised to have sufficient knowledge on performing the necessary steps to avoid bricking a Nexus device. Do this at your own risk.
