Android 5.0 Lollipop that was released in Oct 2014 is now in the process of reaching various smartphones from last year such as Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Moto X, Moto G, Xperia Z3 and many more. However, many users who have updated their devices are complaining about poor battery life issue after performing Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.

To find out the impact of Android 5.0 Lollipop on battery life, GSM Arena carried out tests for talk time, internet browsing and video playback on Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, LG G3 And Nexus 5. The talk time test showed that the HTC One M8 and the Nexus 5 were the worst affected as both the handsets lost about 6 hours of talk time after installing the Android 5.0 Lollipop. The video playback test revealed that the LG G3, HTC One M8 and Nexus 5 lost around one hour of battery life.

A recent report from PC Advisor talks about the measures users can take to fix battery life issues. First of all, users can go to Settings and find out which apps and services are hogging on the battery. If an app is found to be consuming a lot of battery, users can close and uninstall it.

In order to extend the battery life of the device, it recommends its users to restart their devices often. One can also decrease the brightness setting and lower the display timeout to 15 or 30 seconds to prevent battery draining issue.

Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections should be disabled when not in use. By accessing the in-built Task Manager, users can kill all the apps that are running in the background. Smartphones from different brands come with an in-built battery saving feature such as the Ultra Power Saving mode available on Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4. Alternatively, users can carry a power bank or spare battery to power up the device’s battery when required.
