Android 5.0 Lollipop timely release lands during the holidays of 2014 with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 debuting next month. Other devices receiving the next generation Android OS on 2015 are also great options to the gadget-shopping list during the holidays.

Android 5.0 Lollipop Premieres On Nexus 6 And Nexus 9

Both Motorola Nexus 6 and HTC Nexus 9 will run Android 5.0 Lollipop as factory OS version with pre-orders set this month. Google announced that interested buyers can make pre-orders of the HTC Nexus 9 tablet as early as October 17 while Nexus smartphone users desiring Motorola Nexus 6 can make pre-orders later this month.

Google also offers unlocked versions of both Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 through Play Store in addition to an expected contract pricing from network carriers. Major network carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless will offer monthly contract or instalment plans of Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices upon release. In case buyers cannot make the pre-orders, both Nexus devices will be available for purchase at physical stores starting in November.

Google Play Edition And Older Nexus Devices

Although no new Google Play Edition device has been announced running Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google confirms that the new Android software is coming to Google Play Edition devices in the coming weeks.

Older Nexus devices are still great options for those considering budget cuts as Google confirms Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Buyers can still choose LG Nexus 4, LG Nexus 5, ASUS Nexus 7 and Samsung Nexus 10 as options for the holiday shopping list.

Other Popular Devices To Run Android 5.0 Lollipop

Brand manufacturers such as HTC, Motorola and Sony have already unveiled Android 5.0 upgrade plans expected to be released within a few months after Google's official software launch. Here are the flagship models planned for Android 5.0 Lollipop update from HTC, Motorola and Sony Mobile:

- HTC One M8 and M7

- Motorola Moto X first and second generation

- Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

There are other HTC, Motorola and Sony devices planned to be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop, which cost less than the ones mentioned above. Consider taking HTC One Maxx and One Mini as alternatives to HTC One or get Moto G or Moto E instead of Moto X. Sony Mobile has expanded the support for Android 5.0 Lollipop to the 2013 Xperia Z series, which includes Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is still under development and manufacturers are simply waiting for it to be released. HTC commits within 90 days of distribution among HTC One family while Motorola will begin integration of brand-based technology after the official software launch of Android 5.0. Sony Mobile plans to initially send the update on Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition followed by core Xperia Z3 models and the rest of Xperia Z devices in 2015.
