Android 5.0 L official update will roll out before 2014 and expected to be exclusive on Android One, Nexus devices and Google Play Edition models. After that, other branded devices including Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 will receive the firmware.

Android One

Google already confirmed that any Android One device has Android KitKat OS as factory firmware version and automatically eligible to receive any new firmware thereafter. At the company's official Web site for Android, new versions of Android OS are planned to roll out within a month or in two years among Android One models.

Nexus Devices

Motorola Nexus 6 and HTC Nexus 9 have been reported to run Android 5.0 L as factory OS, which means the firmware is planned to other eligible Nexus devices such as LG Nexus 5 and ASUS Nexus 7 2013. Nexus devices co-made by Google are privileged to receive automatic updates of new Android versions. Both Android One and Nexus devices will use the original user interface of Android 5.0 L called Material Design.

Google Play Editions

HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 have Google Play Edition models available at the Google Play Store which runs the original Android UI instead of the respective branded user interface such as HTC Sense or Samsung TouchWiz.

Google Play Edition devices are treated like Nexus models on receiving automatic updates via direct update push from Google bypassing network carriers. However, the chronological flow of Android 5.0 L updates for Android One, Nexuses and Google Play Edition models remain unknown at this time.

Samsung Galaxy S5 And Galaxy Note 4

Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 have a chance to get Android 5.0 L as early as November 2014 based on the information retrieve by SamMobile on how quickly the OS can be adapted to Galaxy devices. It is obvious that Samsung chose both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 as first-hand recipients of Android 5.0 L due to the flagship status for 2014.

Android 5.0 L will likely follow the release date pattern of previous Android versions such as Android KitKat released on October 31 2013, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean 0n November 13 2012 and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in December 2011. Android 5.0 L features include enhanced notifications, a new runtime and an efficiency tool known as Project Volta.
