The father of the late Amy Winehouse did not like the new biopic of her life. The grieving father said he is disappointed with the film, which he said had the potential of being great. The whole family also released a statement sharing how inaccurate the film is.

In an interview with Mirror Celeb, Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch said that he is disappointed with the film. Earlier on, he even tweeted that the whole family and the friends of the singer all feel let down, because it is wasted opportunity to feature a great film. The tweet has since been deleted.

Directed by Asif Kapadia, the biopic will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival next month. Mitch said that he thinks it is unfair that he is being portrayed in a negative light on the story.

In an interview with Sun, the ailing father even said he felt sick when he viewed the film for the first time and is sure that her daughter would hate the movie herself is she is alive. He said he was portrayed as a villain while the Amy’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who he said was the main reason why Amy got into drugs, was let off easily. "Blake is saying in the film that the reason Amy was like that was because of me - not because he gave her crack and heroin and because he completely manipulated and coerced her into Class A drugs,” he explained. He even added that if the truth ever comes out, Fielder-Civil would surely be incarcerated.

As for the rest of the family, a statement was recently released on their sentiments. The statement, issued Sunday by family spokesman Chris Goodman said director Asif Kapadia’s work contained untruths. The family especially griped that the movie did not show how huge their efforts were to help Amy. “Fundamentally, the Winehouse family believes that the film does a disservice to individuals and families suffering from the complicated affliction of addiction,” the statement further reads.

The filmmakers defended themselves and said their work was done as objectively as possible. The film they made were generated from their interview of 100 people who knew Amy Winehouse best, such as her friends, family, past relationships, and her music industry colleagues.
