Newly retired Olympian Michael Phelps went to Hollywood and watched the last “America’s Got Talent’ live show with fiancée Nicole Johnson and their baby boy Boomer.

Phelp’s appearance Wednesday kicked off the AGT live show at the Dolby Theatre. Before the announcement of AGT results, Nick Cannon interviewed the most decorated olympian on stage regarding his retirement.

“I was finally happy with everything that I did with my career and I was able to retire how I wanted to, but most important of all, I had our first child in the stands,” Phelps said, referring to Boomer Robert Phelps, who was born on May 5, 2016.

“They are watching the race. He wasn’t always awake but it was a completely different experience being able to look up and see your baby boy up there after a race.”

The 31-year-old swimmer retired after winning five gold medals and a silver from the recently concluded Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil. The five-time Olympian has so far gotten 28 Olympic medals throughout his career, 23 of which were gold medals.

“I started goal setting at like nine years old and I literally dreamt for the stars and dreamt of the biggest possible thing I can think of. I said I wanted to change the sports of swimming and I want to do something nobody has done before,” Phelps told Cannon on stage.

The family also got to hang out with AGT judge Simon Cowell back stage and to get a family photo that was immediately posted on Instagram.

Phelps used to live in Baltimore, Maryland, but he now lives with his family in a 6,010-square-foot mansion inside an exclusive neighborhood in Paradise Valley, Arizona. As expected, the US$2.53 million (AU$3.3 million) property includes a pool.

Following his retirement, Phelps said he will continue to work with Team USA swimming coach Bob Bowman as a volunteer assistant while he makes a career out of fatherhood.
