Spoiler alert! This article contains “The Americans” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

Upon completing this personal operation, what it would cost the key characters remains a mystery. Episode 11 is expected to bring in family drama as more secrets unravell, Spoiler TV reports.

Looking back at the previous episode, Elizabeth (Keri Russel) and Philip Jennings (Matthew Rhys) were experiencing problems with keeping their work a secret. Elizabeth was seen to be having an emotional breakdown as she asked for some time to rest from all the espionage work.

Viewers were left wondering if Elizabeth’s vulnerability would take the show to a different direction. It is the first time for the strong willed and duty-bound Elizabeth to show such weakness in the four seasons of “The Americans,” the New York Times points out.

All throughout the show, her character was never compromised. She always chose fulfilling her duty to Mother Russia first regardless of the human cost. Elizabeth has always been portrayed to be strong. It was not until Episode 10 when she starts to experience inner turmoil. This inner conflict is expected to escalate further in Episode 11.

One of Elizabeth’s inner battles is the growing gap between her and her whistle-blowing daughter, Paige. The spy couple’s child recently knew of her parent’s espionage life. Like most teen agers, her reaction was erratic resulting in her divulging the family secret to Pastor Tim (Kelly AuCoin).

It gets more complicated when Pastor Tim disappears in Ethiopia and his wife Alice accuses Elizabeth and Philip to be the cause of his disappearance. Alice threatens to tell the police about them while Paige, her own daughter, questions her mother if they were responsible for the pastor’s disappearance.

Furthermore, Elizabeth is upset with her mission to manipulate Young-hee (Ruthie Ann Miles) and husband Don (Rob Yang). Elizabeth has formed a friendship with Young-hee and does not want to ruin her marriage with Don. Elizabeth was even more pressured as Gabriel (Frank Langella), her handler, started pressuring her. Seeing Elizabeth’s turmoil, Gabriel offered to call the Center and ask if there’s another method that did not involve ruining Young Hee’s life.

It is now a question what this method would be, more so if “operation” described on Episode 11’s synopsis refers to Young Hee or the situation involving Alice. “The Americans” Season 4 Episode 11 airs on May 25 on FX. It also airs on SoHo in Australia.
