How is becoming an American Idol judge can lose an artist’s credibility? Ask Kim Kardashian’s beau, Kanye West. The first-time dad for Baby North has reportedly turned down an offer to become a judge on Season 13 of American Idol for fear that he may lose his credibility for going mainstream.

Citing a report by Us Weekly, The Huffington Post is reporting that a source confirms Kanye being offered a spot next to Australian singer, Keith Urban, and most likely, Jennifer Lopez on the judge panel. But Baby Nori’s dad thinks it may hurt his career.

"He didn't want to go that mainstream," a source was quoted as telling Us Weekly by The Huffintong Post. "He didn't want to lose any street cred. So he turned it down."

Kanye was being considered to replace Randy Jackson, the veteran Idol judge who stuck around the once most popular reality TV show - - both in terms of ratings and perception. The curtain was rolled down for Jackson in Season 12 of American Idol, making him the longest-running judge who stayed on Idol after his contemporaries.

Jackson was among the original judges who changed the face of reality TV when American Idol began more than 10 years ago. As he left on Season 12, only host, Ryan Seacrest remains as among the original top members of Fox’s popular show.

With Kanye to turn down the seat formerly occupied by Jackson, the show’s top officials have yet to announce the show’s new judges. Aside from Kanye, XXL Mag noted that there are other hip-hop stars considered for the post. The source who spoke to Us Weekly said that Jennifer’s old flame, Diddy was also considered for the panel. Will i.am and songwriter, Rodney Jerkins were also asked to meet the producers to discuss possible judging post. Officials also reportedly asked hip-hop producer, Dr. Luke for the final spot on the panel and it is said that the show had stopped looking after the meet with Luke. No final decision has been announced as of yet.

American Idol Season 13 premieres in fall. Aussie singer, Keith Urban is the only confirmed judge to come back for next season. Jennifer Lopez is highly likely to join him. The final announcement of the judges is expected this week.
