American Idol on Wednesday night dished out 14 performances from the Top 7 contestants this season. Phillip Phillips, Colton Dixon, Skylar Laine, Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, Elise Testone and Hollie Cavanagh each performed two numbers - one current hit and another one from way down memory lane.

A week after an emotional 'save' by the judges, the Top 7 should know that each of them is still in a good position to steal the show and race all the way to the finals. And as usual as it has been in the past eleven years of the show, the 'Idol' hopefuls need a good song that would aptly showcase their vocal power, appeal, and overall presence; it should be the song to prove that they will be a relevant inclusion in the music industry as it is today.

Last week, Jessica Sanchez chose quite an obscure song, Stuttering by Jazmine Sullivan. The song sounded pretty nice when she delivered it, and it was already clear by then that she has proven her versatility in the show. Yet it turned out she was not that strong among the voters to enjoy the liberty of picking a song that she absolutely likes. She still should have chosen a song that she likes, and at the same time, a song that the voting audience could easily relate to, such that they would be compelled to vote, vote, vote.

On Wednesday's performance show, each Idol got another chance to sing a current hit, and some of them gave excellent numbers. One of them came out to prove that he actually wants to win, after all.

It seems Jimmy Iovine's comparison of Phillip Phillips and Colton Dixon has worked on the former. Either that, or it hit Phillip hard that Jessica almost left the show last week, when it was just too soon to go. When the cameras panned to the 'safe' contestants after it was announced that Jessica was at the very bottom of the voting results, Phillip seemed awfully dumbstruck. It may have hit him them that he could actually get voted off just like that. So he emerged this week with something new. Good for him; he is now back on top as Colton inadvertently made a couple of steps back with not-so-riveting numbers.

Who gave the best performances? Who will be the week's bottom three? Now that the judges have used their one save for the season, anyone who got the lowest number of votes would go home. Who will it be?
