It's the week of songs from the current decade, and American Idol Season 11 is fast approaching its final week. Who won the show Wednesday night?

On Idol's Top 7 performance night, most of the contestants brought out their big guns, ready for a serious competition. Skylar Laine wanted two strong weeks in a row, but drawing the first performance of the night does not always help the contestants. So Skylar brought in her acoustic guitar to at least show the audience something new. She sang Kellie Pickler's Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You, and the judges seemed all pleased.

Colton Dixon is perhaps one of the few contestants on Idol who has shown plenty of layers on the show. He climbed his way to the top of the piano on the first live week, made a little known song a catchy pop song, did pop, did indie, did punk and alternative, then became Mr Sensitive Music Man with Bill Joel's Piano Man. This week, he is even more convincing as a strong contender for the season's title with Eminem and Rihanna's Love the Way You Lie on a white Steinway piano. The stage was so dramatic with strings and smoke, and the vocal ranges Colton lent to the music were just fantastic. It would be inspiring to see him win the whole thing in the finals. Colton was so close to joining Season 10 last year but got eliminated after the final 'Sing for Your Life' round.

Phillip Phillips and Elise Testone did a duet again following last week's very cool performance. However, they found Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know quite difficult for their vocal pairing. Either that, or they lacked proper guidance during rehearsals. It's a shame they failed to nail such a very popular song, with a melody that seemed to fit them perfectly well. Their solo performances did not really make up for their relatively bad duet.

Phillip Phillips' take on Maroon 5's Give a Little More left a lot of room for wanting more from him. He has been doing well on the show, but on the night when everyone was just giving more, he seemed to be holding back, almost as if he does not care anymore. He told Jimmy Iovine he wanted to win, though. The results night will reveal whether he is still a force to reckon with even after Colton made ten steps forward and got him behind by at least three steps this week with the tween girl voters.

Elise Testone sang Lady Gaga's You and I and the judges showed all the support they could give just to pull her away from the bottom three. It was an enjoyable performance, overall, and Elise seemed she was letting go and having fun. It is not easy to tell whether she could make it. Her voters have been as inconsistent as her performances. The judges were all together lukewarm last week and it did not do her well; maybe this time she could make it on the safe side. Then again, hard to say.

Elise is Phillip's female counterpart on giving the could-care-more vibes this week. They both could have given a little bit more, but for some reason, they seemed to have delivered less than what they could -- Phillip this week, and Elise last week. It is almost as if they do not really care about winning, they just do their thing. It's not so fun to root for contestants like them, but one cannot deny they are absolutely good when they themselves enjoy their songs.

Jessica Sanchez chose to sing Jazmine Sullivan's Stuttering, a song not as popular as the others have picked, but boy, did it do her well! Even after almost stumbling on stage, Jessica left quite an amazing memory on the minds of the voters. Her vocals and emotions matched, she sang with depth, and she was truly a convincing performer on stage. This young girl is never complacent; while there may have been weeks when she seemed to be giving others a chance to shine, she always comes back with a big show.

Joshua Ledet has just turned 20 years old and on his first live performance as a 20-year-old, he picked Bruno Mars' Runaway Baby and nailed it on the show. Joshua tends to oversing, overshout, overscream, and while some audience just enjoys it when singers belt it out, there are others who are more amazed when singers show control. When they sing to just take their audience on a journey instead of impressing them with unnecessary vocal dynamics. Tonight, Joshua had control. And his tone was such a treat for the ears.

Hollie Cavanagh said her main thought before her live performance was to not mess it up is probably the most worried about going home tomorrow after the results night. After two weeks in a row at the bottom three, after staying safe all weeks prior, she knew a third time could mean the end of her journey on the Idol stage. She sang Pink's Perfect, but she was not in any way engaging let alone delightful. She has been known for overthinking technicalities while singing, and tonight she did not show that she could just let loose and follow the song's melody without seeming detached to the audience. It is hard to imagine her staying another week when Deandre Branckensick's voters would probably be supporting the other male contestants on the show after his elimination last week.

This week could give a surprising, even shocking, bottom three. The forecast here is that Hollie, Elise and Phillip would make the bottom three. Then again, voters could look at the big picture and see that Skylar has had less big moments than Phillip and Elise, overall. In the end, Hollie could be sent home Thursday.
