American Idol's Final Three performed three songs Wednesday night: one from the judges, one from resident mentor Jimmy Iovine, and their personal choice.

Randy Jackson picked Etta James "I'd Rather Go Blind" for Joshua Ledet. He said he chose a classic to match his "classic singer" impression of Joshua. By the end of the performance, Randy was impressed.

"You're such a classic stylist... This just fits you like a glove," Randy told Joshua.

Jennifer Lopez asked Jessica Sanchez to sing Mariah Carey's "My All," saying the song carries with it a certain tenderness that she would like to see in her performance. After the performance, Jennifer was happy about her choice.

"You did it so beautifully, and you did it in your own way. ... You didn't even go for the big part at the end, and I love that."

Steven Tyler picked "Beggin'" by Madcon for Phillip Phillips, because he wanted to see whether Phillip could deliver the song's melody. (Steven has reminded Phillip a few times in the competition to watch his melody.) By the end of Phillip's number, Steven couldn't ask for more.

"Do you believe this guy?" Steven said in awe.

"When you're facing the sun, the shadows fall behind you," he added. He said Phillip could become the next Bruce Springsteen.

By the end of Round 1, the judges were split in the decision. Randy thought Joshua had a slight edge, while Jennifer and Steven thought Phillip was the real stand-out among the three.

American Idol Season 11 is only a week away from the finale. Host Ryan Seacrest announced the performance show of the Final Two will happen Tuesday night, and the winner will be announced on Wednesday.

Wednesday's show also featured the homecoming trips of Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips. The three finalists were all thrilled by the warm welcome they received back home, but Phillip was the most overwhelmed among them. As a huge crowd went on cheering his name, Phillip was in tears.

The second part of this recap will look back on how the performers did in the second and third rounds.
