When it comes to recreating nightmares in flesh and bone, no other show comes close than “American Horror Story.” After recently unveiling that this season will be election-themed, it looks like some monsters from the past will be back, and they are not who exactly fans think they would be.

Spoiler alert! This article contains “American Horror Story” spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the next episode airs

After collecting trapped children in an abandoned school bus in “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” it looks like the deformed serial killer clown Twisty will be returning this season 7. Ryan Murphy broke the news through his Instagram account with the caption “He’s baaaaaack.”

Twisty could fit in anyone's worst nightmare, but Deadline says that at this point, it is not yet clear how his character fits in season 7, which is going to be centered on November’s US presidential elections. Whether or not viewers will see a twisted clown run for the position of the most powerful man on Earth remains to be seen.

Earlier, Murphy teased viewers with images that appear to be an ambidextrous demon as well as a grotesque elephant/clown hybrid, but he also promised he would make this season more terrifying that that. In another Instagram post, Murphy shared what looks like a disturbing painting of a woman with a leather belt that reaches into her mouth, captioned “I’m Gagging.” Fans compared this image to some of Lady Gaga’s prior getups such as that in “Applause,” but these are unfounded as it has been confirmed that the award-winning star will not be appearing this season.

Some sources also pointed out that these twisted images might be symbolic in nature. These twisted creatures may not even appear in this season. Murphy might have been using these twisted images to sum up the kind of storyline to expect.

No official title for “AHS” season 7 has been revealed yet. The series has already scored a renewal for its eighth and ninth seasons. “American Horror Story” airs on FX in the US and on Channel Eleven in Australia.
