There are fan theories that all “American Horror Story” seasons are actually interrelated. Show creator Ryan Murphy shared how he particularly admires the Dante’s Inferno theory.

Murphy told TVGuide that he actually reads fan theories obsessively and compulsively. Other cast members like Sarah Paulson also check the viewers’ takes. He particularly loved the Dante’s Inferno theory. He added that he also has a theory of his own but will most likely keep it a secret as long as “American Horror Story” is running. Murphy said that “American Horror Story” has such an interesting mythology, so the script can work in different ways. Murphy continued that he always learns much about his own theory based on other fans’ theories.

In another TVGuide report, the Dante’s Inferno theory is probably the most compelling and popular in “American Horror Story.” Red Herry is credited for coming up with the theory that every season of “American Horror Story” represents one of the nine circles of Hell, as featured in the 14th century Italian poem by Dante Alighieri. The series has been renewed for two more seasons, which means that there will be a total of nine, making the Dante’s Inferno theory more relevant.

The Dante’s Inferno theory provides that each circle of Hell is dedicated to tormenting people who committed a specific kind of sin. Fans who believe in the theory’s connection with “American Horror Story” claim that Season 1, “Murder House,” focused on characters who committed the sin of lust. Season 2, “Asylum,” was for those who committed fraud. Season 3, “Coven” was for treacherous individuals. Season 4, “Freak Show,” was for the greedy, while Season 5, “Hotel,” was to punish gluttons.

The Dante’s Inferno theory in “American Horror Story” may also unravel why the same actors keep recurring, albeit in new roles, every season. The doppelgangers may return as different incarnations of the same soul, suffering in several circles of Hell for the sins committed before.

“American Horror Story: Roanoke,” recently concluded, but FX announced that the series will continue, with Season 7 launching sometime in 2017. In Australia, it airs on Channel Eleven. The series will most likely air until 2019.
