After 15 months of marriage, Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp on Monday.

According to TMZ, Heard filed the document just three days after Depp’s mom passed away. In the divorce papers posted by the site, Heard indicated that the couple split on May 22, citing irreconcilable differences as the cause. Adding salt to injury, Depp is in the middle of promoting his new movie, “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” which will open in Australia on July 14.

“I try not to react to the horrible misinterpretation of our lives,” Heard said in December last year, according to People Magazine. “But it is strange, and hard.”

Depp and Heard last hit the headlines during their encounter with Australian authorities after Heard brought pet dogs Pistol and Boo to the country without proper permit. She was fined $1,000 after she pleaded guilty of falsifying the border protection documents.

As part of their settlement with the authorities, the couple then released an awkward video to apologise for sneaking in Pistol and Boo.

TMZ’s latest update says that Depp has given his response to lawyer Laura Wasser to reject Heard’s demand for spousal support.

The couple were first married in a civil ceremony in Los Angeles before tying the knot again last year at Depp's private island, Little Hall's Pond Cay in the Bahamas. Their engagement was announced in January 2014, roughly two years after Depp and Vanessa Paradis split. Depp and Paradis had two children, Lily-Rose and Jack.
