"The Amazing Race," or "TAR" Season 26 aired its third episode titled "#MurphysLaw" on Friday, March 6, 2015. New Kids on the Block, or “NKOTB” member Jonathan Knight and actor Harley Rodriguez survived in a non-elimination leg after winning the “Date Night” reward in the second leg of the race. Plus, a surprise engagement happened at the Pit Stop with “TAR” host Phil Keoghan and the other contestants who witnessed it. Read on for "The Amazing Race" recap of episode 3 to find out what else happened to the other contestants.

Leg 3 (Japan → Thailand)

In Leg 3 of "The Amazing Race," the nine competing teams were shown relaxing at the Pit Stop in Nagano, Japan. They spent the night to rest in Patio Daimon before heading to the Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan. They needed to catch a flight to go to Phuket, Thailand.

Unfortunately, Knight and Rodriguez couldn’t find an earlier flight and had to settle for one that arrived at 9:35 a.m. of the following day. This put them way behind the others in the game, but they remained in hopeful spirits throughout the race.

As soon as the other teams arrived at the Phuket International Airport, they headed to the Patong Beach Bed and Breakfast Hotel for an overnight rest. The next day, they went to Baan Teelanka or the "Upside Down House," which was still in Phuket. After finding the clues which were in the upside down toilet bowl, they proceeded to their chosen Detour challenge.

Leg 3 Detour: Ski or Tree?

1. Tree – At the "Flying Hanuman," the teams had to dress like waiters, use a zipline and deliver a full meal to some customers. They had to hold a tray filled with food and drinks which they couldn’t spill or tip over while they are on the zipline.

2. Ski – At the Phuket Wake Park, the teams had to wakeboard for one lap while they are being pulled by a cable.

If they are successful in their chosen Detour tasks, the teams will get the next clue, which instructed them to go back to Patong Beach for another challenge. Their next task was to participate in the “My Way Cabaret.”

Almost all of the teams chose the Tree challenge instead of the Ski challenge, except for Olympians Aly and Steve and blind dating couple Jackie and Jeff. But the couples decided to switch to the Tree challenge after being unsuccessful in the Ski challenge with numerous attempts.

“My Way Cabaret”

The “TAR” teams had to wear makeup and costumes. Then, they had to learn some choreographed moves and dance in front of an audience. If they perform it well, then they will be given the next clue for the Pit Stop. Newly-dating couple Bergen Olson and Kurt Jordan Belcher even found the “Date Night” reward at the cabaret. It was a romantic evening on the beach at the Pit Stop.

Leg 3 Pit Stop: Baba Nest Rooftop Bar

After the cabaret, the teams had to race to the Sri Panwa Hotel and go to the Baba Nest Rooftop Bar for the pit stop. Matt Cucolo and Ashley Gordon, who have been dating for three years, got engaged there. Matt surprised Ashley with a heartfelt proposal and a ring, which she accepted. Incidentally, this happened after Matt and Ashley raced back to the cabaret when Matt left his fanny pack there. Bergen and Kurt also gave them their “Date Night” reward and the racers took a group shot to remember the moment.

Unfortunately, Harley and Jonathan were the last to arrive on the mat and weren’t able to be a part of Matt and Ashley’s engagement. But thankfully, “TAR” host Phil Keoghan told them that were in a non-elimination leg and that they were still in the race.
