Is Alicia Silverstone totally clueless about the potential health risks of feeding pre-masticated food to her 10 month old son Bear? In a recent post on her The Kind Life blog, she shared a photo of her son eating from her mouth.

She said "I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum!"

" I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup...from my mouth to his. It's his favorite...and mine."

" He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I'm eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food! "

It is a known fact now that Alicia Silverstone and husband Christopher Jarecki are both vegans and baby bear has been fed with vegan food even in utero. They even revealed in a prior interview that they have every intention of feeding him vegan food to boost his immune system.

There is nothing wrong with feeding baby Bear vegan food, it's the practice of feeding him pre-masticated (pre-chewed) food transferred by mouth as part of the weaning process that may pose health risks to the infant.

Several studies show that since viruses and other pathogens can thrive in the mother's or in some cases, a caregiver's saliva.

"Until the risk of pre-mastication and modifying factors (eg, periodontal disease) are better understood, we recommend that health care providers routinely query children's caregivers and expecting parents who are infected with HIV or at risk of HIV infection about this feeding practice and direct them to safer, locally available, feeding options." According a study published in the official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
