Alessandro Del Piero has violated the competition rules of the A-league by wearing a custom captain's wristband having a logo of his clothing line. Such event prompted Football Federation of Australia to ban him from further wearing it again.

The replica that Del Piero wore was for promotional purpose, as the band displayed his company images, which were sold online through his Web site for $23.

A-League maintained strict disciplinary rules and regulations one has to follow. The rules laid out have standardized the armbands and further disallowed players to wear any kind of promotional bands that may display advertisements, images or any messages.

On a contrast, when considering Italian Series-A, this type of case was more relaxed. Sometimes the club management offers armband to players. While Del Piero was with Juventus, he often wears a band that displayed his jersey number. At times, players are seen often wearing promotional campaigns or designer bands carrying some images. Roberto Baggio, Italian soccer legend and former Bresica captain, used to wear an armband with a Buddhist flag.

As per the A-League regulation, "Captains' armbands shall remain free of a sponsor and decorative element or further elements, except for the word 'captain' or an abbreviation or translation thereof."

Further, FFA spokesman also confirmed "FFA has been made aware that the Sydney FC Captain's Armband carried unauthorised wording and has written to Sydney FC advising the club the armband contravenes the Competition Regulations and should not be used."

Chief Executive of Sydney Football Club Tony Pignata said the club was unaware of Del Piero was wearing an armband.

"We received a letter from the FFA regarding Alessandro, the club wasn't aware of it but we will comply with it..." Pignata said.

However, this is not the first time the star player was prevented donning the armband. Del Piero was advised last season to turn his wristband inside out so as to hide the brand name.

Also, in November 12, Sydney FC's Yairo Yau was also instructed to stop wearing sweat bands displaying the flag of Panama.
