New iPhones (yes, plural) will be coming out in October, former Vice President Al Gore, an Apple board member, said Wednesday.

In a speech at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit Wednesday, he dropped the line: "Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug."

The company is widely predicted to have set Oct. 4 as the date for an unveiling of new products, despite recent reports of production delays for the iPhone 5.

This will be the first major product event for newly installed chief executive Tim Cook, who is expected to unveil the new iPhone's specs and features.

Full support is expected from the marketing head Phil Schiller, iOS chief Scott Forstall and recently-named senior vice president of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue.

Former CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs is about to make a confirmation of his attendance.

The upcoming event will finally give light to the rumors and leaks on iPhone 5 that have been going on for months.
