After suffering a devastating loss against Adelaide last week, St Kilda is going back to the field against Carlton Blues on Sunday at 1:10 AEST. Despite their inconsistencies, there is hope for the Saints as skipper Nick Riewoldt has agreed to a one-year contract extension for AFL’s 17th season.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Riewoldt’s extension with the Saints was announced on Saturday night. Unfortunately, Riewoldt’s knee injury is preventing him from participating against the Carlton Blues.

“Clearly a bit of a setback on the weekend, but hopefully just miss the one week and be back post the bye,” Riewoldt said.

Saints coach Alan Richardson had nothing but praise and excitement for the return of Riewoldt. He praised the Saints’ captain profusely.

Despite not being able to get back in the field in time for the Carlton Blues, Riewoldt’s knee is in good condition.

Should Riewoldt retain the captaincy for AFL’s 17th season next year, he will be breaking Stephen Kernahan’s record (226) in leading a team. Riewoldt also comes fourth in the most games played as part of St Kilda.
