Adele, Other Popular Artists Lead Nominees for 2012 Billboard Music Awards [PHOTOS]

As expected, Adele leads the nominations (seems like she has certainly started the year right) with 18 categories, including some Top Female Artist and Top Artist Award.
"Party rockers," LMFAO, is also a finalist, with a total of 17 categories. The uncanny duo will have to go against Adele for the category of Top Hot 100, which also includes other contenders like Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Bruno Mars.
Lil Wayne has set it on a tie with Lady Gaga, who were both able to grab 10 categories. The two joins the competition with Katy Perry, Adele and Rihanna for the win of the Top New Artist Award.
The awards will be based on the rankings made of each artist on Billboard's exact charts. This will include fan votings, sales and downloads of albums and tracks, the frequency of airplay, and performance over today's highly-used social networking sites.
The reports that will be taken into consideration to determine the winners will be the ones that happened between March 1, 2011 to February 29, 2012.
The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will happen at Las Vegas' MGM Grand, and will be shown live over at ABC.
