Adele, Katy Perry, Kanye West, top MTV Video Music Awards '11 Nominations [PHOTOS]

Contemporary heavy hitters Kanye West, Adele and Katy Perry lead the nominations race for this year's most exciting awards show, the MTV Video Music Awards.

British singing sensation Adele nabbed 7 MTV VMA's nominations with just one single from her record-breaking album "21", including the Video of the Year, Best Pop Video, Best Female Video, Best Art Direction and Best Editing awards. Tied with Adele is rapper Kanye West, bagging 7 nominations including Best Collaboration, Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Special Effects for his video "Power". Katy Perry is up for Best Collaboration and Best Editing for her video E.T., while also hoping to win Best Cinematography for her video "Teenage Dream".

Last year's big hopeful Lady Gaga, who previously nabbed 13 nominations, is only up for 3 awards this year. Up for Best New Artist is rapper Whiz Kalifa, Kreashaywn, Tyler the Creator, Foster the People and Big Sean. Justin Bieber, Eminem, Cee-Lo Green, Bruno Mars and Kanye West are against each other for the Best Male Video award.

The 2011 MTV VMA's will be aired on August 28, 9pm local time.
