Samsung Electronics Co is expected to spend around $14 billion - more than Iceland's GDP - on advertising and marketing this year, but it doesn't always get value for money. The outlay buys the South Korean technology giant publicity in TV and cinema ads, on billboards, and at sports and arts events from the Sydney Opera House to New York's Radio City Music Hall. The Liquid Leap is the first sporty wearable that was released by the tech company joining the bandwagon of various wearables in the market. The Acer wearable is similar to Garmin's VivoFit and to Sony's new Smartband Talk.

The Liquid Leap is now available in U.K. on Amazon's website priced at 80pounds or about US$125. Its U.S. release is yet to be announced. The Leap is similarly priced with Fitbit Flex which appears to be a good option for consumers with decent budget who want to possess a wearable which performs well.

Acer's first smartwatch sports a durable 17mm rubber hypoallergenic strap which has five colour varieties though the black and white variants seem to be on sale as of today. The watch's display is a 1-inch monochrome OLED which according to the tech company is the smallest touchscreen display ever developed, Wareable.com reports.

The Leap like the other average fitness trackers is able to count steps and monitor calories burned as well as track users sleep. Running Distance is another feature that this wearable has. However, it is something consumers should not be too excited about. For the main reason that the device is not GPS equipped just like the recently launched Microsoft Band.

This smartwatch can also notify users with incoming calls, email and text messages plus calendar reminders. It also features music playback controls. Its battery life is expected to last for seven days but further review still has to be made to prove the battery's strength.

According to Digital Trends, Acer has also produced apps which will go along with the Leap and can be downloaded for iOS and Android smartphones. For consumers' guidance, the band is said to be compatible with iPhone models from the 4S onwards powered by iOS 7 or iOS 8. Android on the other hand has the following list of compatible devices: Acer's Liquid X1, Jade and E700 devices plus the Galaxy S3, S4 and S5. Nexus 4 and 5 are also covered along with Motorola's Moto X and Moto G and HTC's One M7 and One M8.
