Acer announced its latest range of Windows 10 devices on Monday and confirmed its Jade Primo Windows 10 smartphone won’t be compatible with Continuum. Jade Primo, however, will be shipped with the required set of accessories and hardware (except the monitor) when it launches.

Windows 10’s Continuum allows users to turn their smartphones into desktop computers. Users place the phone on a “dock” that connects to a monitor or TV, and hook-up a keyboard and mouse to convert the phone into a Windows 10 PC. That sounds quite amazing. Acer will sell Jade Primo with a set of accessories that go with a desktop computer.

Continuum helps users work with Windows apps on a bigger screen like a monitor and TV. Continuum-enabled smartphones come with a desktop, taskbar and start menu. Users can use familiar keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste. When receiving a phone call on the handset, a user can continue with another app on the desktop, reports Liliputing.

Yes, there are a few limitations. The Continuum experience will be a bit different from that of the Windows 10 notebook or desktop environment. Mostly, the apps in Continuum run on full screen. This means repositioning a window on the screen won’t be easy. Moreover, users won’t be able to load desk versions of a few apps like Photoshop and Steam.

Jade Primo features a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. Powered by the Snapdragon 808 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB internal storage, the smartphone houses a USB Type-C port. The device sports 21 MP rear snapper with an 8 MP front camera, GSM Arena reports.

Microsoft also revealed the newest members of its Lumia family on Monday: the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL featuring Windows 10’s Continuum. But one has to pay an extra $100 for the docking station. Back in September, Acer first introduced the smartphone at IFA 2015 to showcase Continuum on Windows 10.

Acer has yet to announce the release date and price of Jade Primo. As compared to Microsoft’s own Lumia devices, Jade Primo might offer a more comprehensive Windows 10 experience at an affordable price, says a report in Slash Gear.
