Aaron Hernandez, former New England Patriots tight end, has been charged with murdering Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player for the Boston Bandits. A "selfie" photo, in which he is seen flaunting his Glock handgun with one hand and a camera phone on the other in front of a mirror, is going viral on Twitter.

Prosecutors accused Aaron Hernandez, 23, of killing Odin Lloyd over some "troubles." Lloyd, 27, is a semipro football player. ESPN reported Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée. The two athletes were reportedly friends.

Lloyd's body was found in an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez' home.

A Twitter update by @SportsCenter about Aaron being charged with murder has been re-tweeted nearly 3 thousand times. His firearm-in-hand selfie photo is being retweeted by several different Twitter users.

Hernandez, 23, was also charged with one count of carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possessing a large-capacity firearm and two counts of possessing a firearm without some firearms ID card.

The counsel for Hernandez had sought a bail provision, saying the sportsman had never been accused of a violent crime and is not a flight risk. However, ESPN reported a man had filed a lawsuit against Hernandez a week ago, saying Hernandez shot him after an argument at a strip club in February in Florida. No criminal charges were pursued at the time because the alleged victim had refused to cooperate.

The bail was denied. If convicted, Aaron could get life without parole.

In releasing Hernandez, the Patriots said in a statement:

"We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do."

Social media channels are already spreading memes with regards to Aaron's case, but sympathies are also extended to the family of Odin Lloyd.

Aaron's TMZ-published selfie photo, was reportedly taken years ago. Sympathizers are resenting the trial-by-social-media just because the athlete was wearing a Coogi tee, which is typically associated to gangsters. See the tweets and photos in the accompanying slideshow.
