Time really does fly. Before you know it, January has officially ended and it’s the first week of February. Most people associate the second month of the year with love and romance thanks to Valentine’s Day 2018 on Feb. 14. Usually, couples go out and plan romantic dates on this special day. Long-wearing and kiss-proof lipsticks are popular around this time because kiss marks are so outdated.

However, there are a lot of choices in the market, which can be quite confusing. Don’t fret, because we’ve narrowed it down for you. Here’s a list of eight kiss-proof lipsticks (in no particular order) to try on Valentine’s Day. Not only are they long-lasting and transfer-resistant, they are also cruelty-free.

8 kiss-proof and cruelty-free lipsticks to try on Valentine's Day 2018

1. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20 or AU$ 25.14)

The famous lipstick from tattoo artist/model/musician/entrepreneur Katherine von Drachenberg, aka Kat Von D, is known for its lasting power. According to the brand's website, it is long-wearing and transfer-proof but also very comfortable on the lips, thanks to natural moisturisers, which include Sunflower Seed Wax and Vitamin E.

Plus, the brand is cruelty-free and vegan. There are a lot of beautiful shades to try, namely, Lolita (chestnut rose), Lolita II (terra cotta nude), Sanctuary (nude coffee), Berlin (warm rose), Bow n Arrow (fawn nude) and Lovecraft (mauve pink nude).

2. Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick ($18 or AU$ 22.64)

Another popular lipstick brand is the one from Jeffrey Lynn Steininger, the make-up artist/singer/songwriter/model popularly known as Jeffree Star. The Velour Liquid Lipstick, in particular, has been earning rave reviews from users for its longevity as well as the fact that it’s smooch-proof.

The whole makeup line is also certified cruelty-free. The shades to try for Valentine’s Day are Mannequin (cool-toned dark nude), Celebrity Skin (soft brown nude with a peachy undertone), Gemini (terra-cotta warm-toned nude) and Unicorn Blood (dark rusty matte red).

3. Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kit ($29 or AU$ 36.47)

Kylie Jenner of the Kardashian-Jenner clan (who just gave birth to a daughter with partner Travis Scott) also has famous lipsticks and lip liners under her belt. The kiss-proof and animal-friendly Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kit is the brand’s star product. Check out the shades Posie K (cool mid-tone berry), Maliboo (light cool-tone nude), Koko K (pale pink), Mary Jo K (true blue red), Head Over Heels (deep plum) and Love Bite (rich plum brown).

4. Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick ($21 or AU$26.39)

Plus, it lasts a long time and doesn’t leave kiss marks everywhere. Its Melted Matte Lipstick line is even formulated without parabens and gluten. Instead, it contains hyaluronic filling spheres, avocado oil and vitamin E to condition the lips. Try out the shades Child Star, Suck it, Drop Dead Red and Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.

5. Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.50 or AU$8.17)

If you’re a bit tight on the budget, try Colourpop Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks, which are similar to the above-mentioned higher priced lippies at a fraction of the cost. Try the shades Love Bug (rich mahogany), Arriba! (warm true red), Bumble (warm rose) and Beeper (greige rose).

6. NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick ($7 or AU$ 8.81)

The affordable professional makeup line also boasts of an impressive product line-up that can rival other high-end cosmetics. The kiss-proof lipsticks to try from this brand are from the Nyx Lingerie line. The stand-out shades for Hearts Day 2018 include Push-Up (brown spice pink), Embellishment (muted purple), French Maid (muted mauve), Cabaret Show (dusty rose) and Exotic (warm mahogany red).

7. Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color ($2.49 or AU$3.13)

This wallet-friendly brand has high-quality products comparable to professional makeup brands. In fact, one of its star products, the Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color, has a lot of dupes for MAC lipstick shades. The ones to try are Sandstorm (MAC Taupe dupe), Mocha-licious (MAC Verve dupe), Cherry Bomb (MAC Diva dupe), Stoplight Red (MAC Ruby Woo dupe), Pinkerbell (MAC Viva Glam Nicki Minaj dupe) and In the Flesh (MAC Twig dupe).

8. The Body Shop's Lip & Cheek Stain (AU$14.00

The Body Shop is an animal-friendly brand with lots of cruelty-free products including its classic lip and cheek stain. While not exactly a lipstick, it is still a good option for those who prefer long-lasting and lightweight colour. Even "The Beauty and the Beast" and "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson is a fan of it, particularly the Red Pomegranate shade.

"It makes me look healthy and less exhausted," Watson told Into the Gloss. "And I like that you can kiss someone while you’re wearing it and it’s not going to come off."

Other shades to try are Deep Berry, Dutch Tulip and Bright Peony. If you want to use dark eye makeup with the lip and cheek stain, try the paler shades Dusty Rose and Vineyard Peach, instead.

And there you have it, these are the eight kiss-proof and cruelty-free lipsticks to use on Valentine’s Day. Don’t worry, they will still come off, but make sure to use oil-based makeup removers to do so. Pucker up!
