Dementia is now a top killer disease in Australia

There is nothing weird for an old man having a sexual relationship with his better half. However, 78-year-old Henry Rayhons is facing trial for having sex with his wife, Donna Lou Rayhons, in a nursing home.

According to the Newser, Rayhons was well-aware of the fact that Donna, who has severe Alzheimer's, was not able to consent for an intimate relationship. The sexual act is believed to have happened a few days after Rayhons was informed by the medical staff member's about Donna's mental inability to give consent for sex. The nine-time Republican legislator has been charged with third degree felony sexual abuse.

According to Donna's roommate in the nursing home, Rayhons drew the curtains around her wife's bed before sexual noises were heard from the area on May 23, 2014. The CCTV camera at the nursing home recorded Rayhoms dropping something into the laundry bag, which is suspected to be Donna's underwear.

According to the social worker Michelle Dornbier at the nursing home, Donna's family, including Rayhons', was provided with a care plan on May 15, 2014. The care plan detailed out the routine that must be followed for Donna. In addition, a recommendation was made against having sex. Rayhons was arrested soon after his wife's death in August 2014, after which he refused to seek another term as a Republican legislator, reported The New York Times.

Reportedly, Rayhons revealed that he had a harmonious married relationship with Donna and that she used to ask for sex occasionally. However, in an interview with the state investigators, Rayhons refused to remember having sex with Donna in the nursing home. When the investigator implied to Rayhons that it has been caught on the CCTV camera, he seemed to have accepted and acknowledged his sexual act.

Before being placed in Concord Care Center, Iowa in March 2014, Donna had trouble remembering the names of her daughter and other words used in everyday life. In addition, she had completely forgotten how to eat a hamburger and certain other foods.
