Perhaps one of the best video game genres for those wanting to play with others is the popular first-person shooters. This genre has a lot of popular names in its library including “Halo,” “Battlefield,” “Team Fortress” and “Call of Duty.” Most of the developers focus on gunplay and the arsenal of weaponry, but one title coming in early access next month is geared towards providing battles capable of housing 100 players at once.

“Squad” is the latest Kickstarter project to attain success on the crowd funding platform. The game is developed by Offworld Industries, the modder behind a popular “Battlefield 2” mod, Project Reality. The game has already surpassed its Kickstarter goal and will be released on Steam Early Access on December 15.

Although the game will not be released in full at Steam Early Access, it will still contain several features for players to enjoy. It will have two new maps; one of which is a massive 16km x 16km area based of a real life area in Afghanistan. The other map is smaller as it is geared towards readying players for tactical squad based CQB gaming.

Along with the two new maps, the game will also have four game modes and a total of four factions to choose from. Among the four new factions are Russia Ground Forces and Irregular Militia. As for the game modes, Advance and Secure, Conquest and Territory Control will be available on Dec. 15.

What could have been a factor in the game’s popularity is that it features a massive 50 v 50 battle scheme, which is one of the largest number of players in a map. For now, players interested in the game can pre-purchase the copy at the pre-purchase website of “Squad.” People who purchase the game before the launch on Dec. 15 will be rewardded with a discount.
