Dogs, regardless of breed, need regular grooming to keep them healthy and beautiful inside and out. There’s no need to pay a lot for a groomer or a vet to do this because there are basic dog grooming tips you can easily perform yourself. Here are some of them.

  1. Dog bath

Dogs need not be given a bath every day. Try to assess your dog. Does it have short, medium or long hair? Dogs that are frequently outdoors require regular bath compared to those that are often indoors. Many dog owners simply give their dogs a bath at least once or twice a month. Use a dog shampoo or soap that can effectively clean and at the same time remove fleas.

  1. Nail clipping

Many dog owners find it difficult to clip their dog’s nails because they fear they will hurt their pet during the process. The technique here is to make your dog get used to it by clipping its nails from the time it was still a pup. You should also use the right tool to prevent hurting your dog.

  1. Hair brushing

The length of your dog’s hair doesn’t matter as long as you brush it regularly. Dogs love having their furs brushed because it has a soothing effect to their body, like a massage. You can brush your dog every day to get rid of tangles and mats. Brushing also makes your dog’s hair soft and shiny.

  1. Teeth cleaning

Just like humans, dogs also need to have their teeth brushed daily. Not doing so can lead to oral problems like bad breath, bleeding gums, and tooth decay. Make it a habit to brush your dog’s teeth using dental products appropriate for it. Be sure to do it gently to avoid harming your dog’s gums.

  1. Doggie haircut

Dogs, especially those with long hair, need regular haircut. Now you don’t need to go to a professional hairstylist to do this because you can do it right at home using a comb and scissors. Snip matted hair as well as those that cover your dog’s eyes and ears.

Simply follow these basic dog grooming tips and you don’t have to spend a lot of money for professional services. These are just what you need to make your dog feel loved and well taken care of.
