A few weeks after the iPhone 6 unveiling on September 9, it is fair to expect that the actual release date will happen shortly plus the fresh functions and features that the next iPhone will bring to the table.

It's almost certain that the 2014 version (or versions as numerous reports strongly suggest of a 4.7-inch build and a 5.5-inch model) will have a larger screen and a radically slimmed down profile but beyond the talks of an entirely different form-factor a number of the upgrades that many Apple fans have been looking for are not exactly new.

Apple would only need to closely check out Android devices and they would find at least four handset capabilities that likely would even be more exciting when packed with the iPhone 6.

Read on to find out:

Higher storage space

At the moment, the iPhone 5S offers 64GB as the maximum storage space that users can enjoy, which on paper seems sufficient. However, the internal memory could easily fill up and it's about time for the iPhone maker to breach the mark.

There are two ways that Apple can do this. First the company can offer a 128GB iPhone 6, which is a possibility that has been floating around and can readily happen. A 128GB iPad 4 is already in circulation so extending the same with the upcoming iPhone shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Or the tech giant can 'borrow' from one of the most appreciated Android device features - a memory expansion slot. Needless to say, an iPhone 6 that boasts of 128GB built-in drive and can also accommodate an extra memory with similar capacity is an Android killer in the making.

Enhanced touch keyboard

Tapping away with the native iPhone touch keyboard is already a treat but surely the room for improvement is always there. In this respect, Apple could seriously consider the acquisition of Swype or similar apps in time for the iPhone 6 debut.

In doing so, Apple would pave way for key swiping and do away with key tapping, which makes for super-faster messaging - a feature long-enjoyed by millions in the Android universe.

Near-field communication

Sure Apple can always use its Passbook technology to facilitate a more efficient mobile payment procedure but NFC is more than that that the tech giant needs to give the system more than a second glance.

There is little doubt that iPhone users will not only appreciate an NFC-enabled wireless mode of shopping but also relish the emerging technology's other benefits. Among them is the ability to share contents between two devices with gentle taps or handshake.

Killer battery features

A killer phone is largely defined by its battery inside and for the iPhone 6 to fit the bill, Apple will have to include the following: a higher battery rating to extend operating hours and wireless charging that beefs up the convenience of recharging.

But frequent recharging may not be necessary if Apple would only allow a redesign of the iPhone 6 casing that will provide for a removable back cover. Should this happen, users can move around with a fully-charged extra battery then simply slide in the new power juicer once the battery on-board begins dying out.

Hopefully, these wishlist features will get packed with the iPhone 6, the release date of which is likely on early October for the will get packed with the iPhone 6, the release date of which is likely on early October for the 4.7-inch variant and December 2014 for the 5.5-inch phablet-size edition.
