With the beta iOS 8.4 already being toyed around by developers and bits of iOS 9 Monarch details reportedly revealed, Apple fans have been given a glimpse of the killer features packed with the iPhone 7 on its release date. The update may not represent an overhaul from last year but is nonetheless interesting.

According to Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac, iOS 9 is far from being finalised but the Apple mobile operating system codenamed Monarch is nearing the polished stage. Gurman obtained key details about the OS that naturally serve as previews of some of the features that the next iPhone will deliver. Four of them he share and are outlined below:

Better iPhone security

The iPhone 7 will boast of enhanced security, software-wise. Gurman said that Apple engineers are working hard to bolster the security features of the device that iOS 9 will, chief of which is the 2015 iPhone.

This hint is in line with the introduction last year of Apple Pay, the process of which is deeply integrated with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner and near-filed communication that permit secured wireless and online shopping. If Apple is further boosting the security features of its iOS devices, these areas are likely will be the focus of its attention.

Siri redesigns

For iOS 9, the iPhone digital assistant Siri is getting a huge makeover, Gurman reported. Once the mobile OS is officially revealed, fans can expect “a redesigned Siri application that closely mimics the more colourful user interface of Siri on the Apple Watch,” the 9to5Mac reporter said. But beyond the new look, skin-deep improvements should not be discounted if Siri is to fend off the solid challenges coming from Cortana and Google Now.

New device wallpaper

It appears too that Apple is upgrading its iOS device wallpaper signature as Gurman noted that with the iOS 9 arrival a new default wallpaper will be unleashed bearing the blue and green colour mixture. As expected, the backdrop change will be applied to the iPod, the iPad and the iPhone 7 variants.

Revised music streaming service

In time for the iOS 9 rollout and the devices it will power, Apple will begin cashing in on the billion-dollars acquisition of Beats Music, which will be the platform of the tech giant’s reengineered music streaming service, Gurman said. The company has provided a pre-taste of this plan – its functions and design – with the iOS 8.4 beta version.

By late June 2015, the service will become official with the twin rollout of iOS 8.4 and iTunes 12.2, the 9to5Mac report said, in the immediate weeks following this year’s WWDC by Apple. Then in the coming months, the iPhone 7 release date can be expected and the unboxing should include iOS 9 in its final cut.
