Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge were all present at the showing of "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom." The film received a standing ovation from the English Royals and a handful of other important people at the event. It was premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square.

It came to a shock to them when they learned that the subject of the film they had just watched, Nelson Mandela, had just given his last breath.

The successor to the royal throne had spoken right after the premiere saying:

"We were just reminded of what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was and my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family right now."

A number of other people had also given their thoughts on the loss of one of the greatest leaders of our time.

Prime Minister David Cameron gave his thoughts, saying that Mandela is a "Hero of our time."

Formula1 racer, Lewis Hamilton posted on his Facebook page saying that meeting Mandela was the "most special moments in my [Hamilton] life."

"One of the most inspirational human beings to have lived & without doubt the nicest man I ever met. I will miss you, we will miss you," added Hamilton.

Nelson Mandela had been under medical observation as he was given treatments at home. The renowned leader spent most of his time at home after being diagnosed with a lung infection. He had been in the hospital for about three months and died peacefully at the age of 95. His death was announced by South African president, Jacob Zuma on the African national television.

Many have shared their thoughts and memories about the passing of one of the greatest and most loved leaders of the 20th century.
