One of the contenders to win the title this year is no other than Serena Williams, who is bidding to become the first player since Steffi Graf to win all grand slam titles in one season. While many would want to witness Serena’s historic quest for a Calendar Slam, Graf is reportedly not going to be in the stands if the current World No. 1 makes the final.

A source told NYPost that Graf will not show up at the 2015 US Open women’s singles final if Serena makes it to the championship round. The reason was not clear why Graf, who was considering flying from Las Vegas to watch the finale, decided to skip the main event. The report suggested that Graf’s choice not to watch the final could be attributed to her “reserved nature.”

“Graf didn’t want to steal any attention away from Williams,” wrote NY Post.

Meanwhile, Serena is one round away from a historic Calendar Slam. She was due to play Roberta Vinci in the semifinal on Thursday, but the match was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in New York.

The women’s semifinal is set to take place on Friday starting with the first match featuring Romania’s Simona Halep and Italy’s Flavia Pennetta at 11 a.m. (EDT) on Arthur Ashe. Serena will headline the second semifinal match after the second-ranked Halep and Pennetta square off. The winners are set to clash on Saturday’s final.

Only five players (male and female) have been able to achieve the Calendar Slam in the history of tennis. American Don Budge first achieved such feat in 1938 followed by fellow compatriot Maureen Connolly in 1953. Australia’s Rod Laver has done it twice in 1962 and 1969 as well as Margaret Court in 1970. The last player to achieve a Calendar Slam is Graf in 1988.
