The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) brought together maverick artists Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj under the same roof. As expected, these four were the show stealers on Sunday night, and West must have also caused quite a ripple in the Washington political circle by announcing his intention to run for President in 2020.

West is this year’s recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and after playing a lengthy tribute video dedicated to him, MTV chose Taylor to hand him the award -- quite a clever move given their history. This being the MTV VMAs stage, she did not let the opportunity slip to remind West and everyone about the former's interruption during her acceptance speech back in 2009. The rapper was clearly squirming in his seat hearing that, but he soon cheered up when Taylor started to shower compliments on him.

The 38-year-old, however, ended up stealing the headline of the night when he took the stage. During his acceptance speech, West thanked Swift for giving him the award and talked about their first meeting, and reflected, saying "if I had a daughter at that time, would I have went on stage and grabbed the mic from someone else's?" And then dropped the most shocking announcement of the night -- that he has decided to run for president of the United States in 2020.

"... I have decided, in 2020, to run for president," he said while wrapping up his speech. According to the full transcript of the speech shared by VOX, he also told the audience that he smoked some weed before coming to the stage. He explained that he needed it to calm his nerves.

Huffington Post gave an account of even more awkwadrdness that took place next. Miley took the stage after Kanye’s speech and said: “Now we know what Kanye is like on weed!”

She then talked about West’s wife, Kim Kardashian. To be more precise, she talked about Kim’s nipples. “Kanye and I have something else in common -- we both love Kim Kardashian.Man, have you guys seen those nipples?” she said.

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards was held on Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles.
