Two MacBook products recently surfaced with reports suggesting a year-end and early 2015 release. These include another refreshed version of the MacBook Air and the 12-inch MacBook Air Retina possibly sporting the TouchID. Which should users wait for?

Reports about a possible 2014 MacBook release by the end of the year surfaced recently from Taiwan's Industrial and Commercial Times. According to the report, Apple may be gearing up for a end of the year release with a fanless MacBook edition.

The report claims that Intel managed to produce enough units of its Broadwell" Core M batch allowing Apple to churn in another launch before the conclusion of the year. It should be in time for last-minute and new-year shopping but BGR advises to take this with a grain of salt. Apple's releases always happen around September and before the holidays. Usually, after its holiday release announcements, the company does not do any more product launches until the following year.

If Apple will not push through with another 2014 MacBook line then people can look forward to a 12-inch MacBook Retina by the start of 2015. According to Gotta Be Mobile, the laptop may even sport the TouchID seeing that Apple introduced the technology to its iPad line. A Macbook adoption should just be around the corner. The 12-inch release will reconcile the advantages of the 11-inch and 13-inch versions allowing Apple to target both markets without compromising screen aspect and portability.

The 2014 MacBook Air came out last June with just some minor upgrades. For instance, it runs on 1.3GHz Intel Core i5 clocked at 1.4GHz. Apple did not feel changing its storage and memory offering the same 128GB flash storage and 4GB RAM. The consolation is that the model is cheaper with $100 discount. Consumers can now get the MacBook Air for as low as $899. The 13-inch entry level MacBook Air is also comparatively affordable at $999. According to analysts, the lack of major upgrades have prompted consumers to express more expectations on the next MacBook line.

Apple has not provided any comments or details about the reported and expected MacBook releases.
