Andrea Petkovic continues her bid to defend her title in the 2015 Family Circle Cup at Charleston. Has Petkovic defeated Madison Brengle 6-4 6-4 to advance in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Petkovic has now improved her winning streak at the Family Circle Cup to 10-0 following her victory over Brengle, who shocked her in the first round of the 2015 Australian Open 5-7 7-6 6-3. Petkovic is the highest-seeded player left after top seed Eugenie Bouchard lost in the second round 6-3 6-1 and second-seeded Ekaterina Makarova was forced to pull out due to an illness.

According to Petkovic, she has worked hard following her stunning loss to Brengle in January. It paid off because she was successful against her American opponent this time around.

“After that I really sat down with my coaches and I worked on the spin on my forehand and on the slice and just trying to change the rhythm, open up the courts, make them run more,” Petkovic said via The Post and Courier, South Carolina’s oldest daily newspaper. “I think even though I didn’t play well (Thursday), I played well strategically and I think that paid off in the end.”

Petkovic will play against qualifier Danka Kovinic in the quarterfinals. Kovinic has advanced in the last eight after sixth-seeded Jelena Jankovic pulled out due to a right foot injury. Petkovic and Kovinic have never met in professional tour before their quarterfinals clash.

In other quarterfinal matches, fifth-seeded Angelique Kerber will play 13th-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu. Sara Errani, the fourth seed, will meet qualifier Lucie Hradecka, while seventh-seeded American Madison Keys will battle fellow compatriot Lauren Davis next.
