Top seed Novak Djokovic and third seed Rafael Nadal cruised past their opening round matches to advance at the 2015 China Open. Djokovic pulled off an easy win against qualifier Simone Bolelli 6-1 6-1, while Nadal saw off local favourite Di Wu 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

Djokovic, the reigning champion and also a five-time champion in Beijing, beat the 59th-ranked Bolelli in just a little over an hour to advance. It was their first encounter since playing in the hard courts of the 2009 Gerry Weber Open. Djokovic fired seven aces to his opponent’s two. He had won 100 percent of his break points. The Serbian’s percentage of first serve points was 84 compared to Bolelli’s 59. The victory extended Djokovic’s head-to-head advantage over the Italian.

The 28-year-old Belgrade native now holds a 25-0 winning streak in Beijing. He first won the title in 2009 beating Marin Cilic 6-2 7-6 and defended it against David Ferrer 6-2 6-4 in 2010. Djokovic failed to continue his title defense in 2011 due to injury. In 2012, Djokovic returned to compete in Beijing and hailed the champion until 2014.

“I thought I played well on a very high level considering it’s the first official match out there after three weeks of the US Open,” Djokovic said after the match.

Djokovic also played in the doubles event on the same day, partnered with his younger brother Djordje. The Djokovic brothers beat Gong Mao-Xin and Michael Venus 7-7 7-6.

Meanwhile, Nadal wrestled past local favourite Di to advance in the next round. The Spanish revealed that he had previously played the 224th-ranked Di in practice sessions in the past, but their first-round clash in Beijing was their first official match on tour. Nadal fired four aces during the match and saved three of his seven break points.

“He (Di) can play very easy, he’s a good player,” Nadal said of his opponent. He plays better that what his ranking says, but at the end he’s an opponent that has a good potential, makes things easy.”

Nadal will play Vasek Pospisil next, who beat Victor Estrella Burgos in three sets 4-6 7-5 6-0. Three-time defending champion Djokovic will face Chinese wild card Zhang Ze in the second round.
